guest speaker at the Board of Directors meeting of The Federation of
State Physician Health Programs, Inc. (FSPHP), a not-for-profit
corporation, as a part of the 2006 FSPHP Annual Meeting held at the
Hilton Boston Back Bay, Boston, Massachusetts.
Mr. May was recommended to the FSPHP Board as a speaker by in-house

FSPHP had requested an attorney with expertise in non-profit issues,
specifically issues surrounding with Section 501©(3) of the Internal
Revenue Code, to speak to the Board about the tax implications of some
of its practices and matters of corporate governance. FSPHP evolved
from initiatives taken by the American Medical Association and
individual state physician health programs, focusing upon
rehabilitation and monitoring of physicians with psychoactive substance

About Massachusetts Medical Society
The Massachusetts Medical Society, the oldest continuously operating
medical society in the United States, was established as a professional
association of physicians by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts in an
Act of Incorporation, Chapter 15 of the Acts of 1781, just days after
the Revolutionary War’s climactic Battle of Yorktown. Today, the
Massachusetts Medical Society continues to advocate for patients and
physicians. In recent years, the Society has assumed a leadership role
in public health, health system reform, and the quality of health care
and patient safety. With membership that has grown from 70 members in
1781 to more than 18,000 members today, the Massachusetts Medical
Society continues to serve the citizens and the physician community of
Massachusetts.
