Rich May client featured in Women’s Boston Business Journal
The Women’s Boston Business journal, in its September 2007 edition, published a feature article on Rich May client RNK and RNK’s co-founder, Joy Tessier. RNK is a rapidly growing telecommunications services provider, founded in 1997 by Joy Tessier and Rich Koch. The company began as a competitive local exchange carrier at the start of the “deregulation” of the local service telecommunications market. At its founding, it had two employees; it now has over 200 employees and provides a wide range of services to other telecommunications companies and to end-user consumers on a world-wide basis. From pre-paid phone cards and internet, to customer support and billing, RNK’s contributions are ubiquitous. The article highlights Ms. Tessier’s efforts in helping to build RNK to its current size: selling over 600 million minutes of telephone service per month and having over $60 million of annual revenues.
Tessier joined Koch to form a regulated phone company when the 1996 Telecommunications Act opened up competition in the local telephone market. The pair eventually decided they wanted to run their own network rather than resell to larger companies. Tessier is proud of the high level of customer service provided by RNK: “Customers don’t care about the savings if they aren’t getting good service.”
Tessier now focuses on business strategy. With a core senior management team in place, Tessier can look for more business partners, find ways to “stay ahead of the curve”, and determine new ways to grow and evolve RNK’s current technologies. “If you stay focused every day, if you treat your customers and employees well, you will be successful,” she says.
